About Alkmaar

Alkmaar is a historic city with over a thousand municipal and national monuments. The city is widely known as “Cheese City” (“Kaasstad”). From early April to late September, there is a traditional Cheese Market held on Fridays. Alkmaar is also famous for its numerous courtyards, such as the “Hof van Sonoy” from the 16th century and the “Wildemanshofje”. It’s a delightful town to visit, thanks to its historic canals, cafes, restaurants, and shops. Along the canals, you’ll find many charming houses dating from the 16th to the 19th century.
